Overview
Stories of genocide must be continually retold to remind us of the victims of violence and disaster. Such stories play an important role in boosting the collective vigilance against our darkest instincts so that it never happens again. Meanwhile, we honor the victims of these tragedies by lending a voice to their memories and suffering.
The survivors of the Killing Fields are now growing old in years and taking their memories with them. The window of opportunity to capture the legacy of survivors from this dark period of human history is closing. Not to mention, survivors of the Cambodian genocide are generally reluctant to revisit the long-buried and traumatic ghosts of the past, so authentic stories are few and far between. However, we admire Yim Chheng’s passion for having his story told to the world. He is proud of his journey and accomplishments, and we are honored to bring his story to the big screen.
